Capturing splash windows

In some cases a window appears as an application starts up and then clears – for example ArtWorks. I don’t know if ‘splash window’ is the correct way to refer to these. I should like to capture that window but can’t see how to do it. If I use !Paint, the snapshot countdown timer stops while the window is being displayed and it then captures the background image. I also can’t see how to use !Snapper to do this. Any ideas please? |

Not sure, maybe it will not help but I use The old snapper sources you find here. |

One thought is to set snapper to full screen grab, and hit the hotkey(s) as soon as the splash appears |

Doesn’t work. The hotkeys are ignored while the splash screen is being displayed – I suspect no Wimp_Poll events are being generated. I have also tried doing a screen capture on VRPC using Greenshot but it doesn’t ‘see’ the VRPC screen content. |

Keep getting hit by the logout nasty. I was meaning use the non-wimp method for full screen capture. This is all done by the module and doesn’t need any wimp polls. This method is normally used for ‘in-game’ snaps, but should work in the wimp as well. |

Have capture RPCEmu with CamStudioPortable for this Testmovie without problems. |

If they are done by template files oould you not load the the template file into a template file editor? |

I thought of that earlier, but have a suspicion that you’d probably mostly see an empty window with the “draw something here” crosshatch. |

In the case of ArtWorks for example, double-click !ArtWorks, hit F12 when the splash screen is up, then *screensave $.screen |

Cunning plans, many thanks. !Snapper did the business once I set it to auto save. I was using the save dialogue box and it only appeared after the splash screen had disappeared. |

Yes. The Save as obviously requires the wimp to be polling in order to function. Direct saves are completed without polling the wimp. |

I’ve only recently noticed that when running VirtualRPC under Windows, the Alt-PrintScreen button combination copies the screen (the RISC OS desktop) to the clipboard, and then WinClip makes it available as a sprite. This works regardless of what RISC OS is doing at the time, of course. |
