Perhaps we could add some RISC OS extensions to LOLcode I HAZ WINDOW ? :) |

I did not know that was an option. <looks sceptical as if wondering what the world is coming to>
Well, like much of the early 70s, you had to be there daddio. But it was very popular at the time. Like gonorrhoea. Serious point though: Sometimes it’s possible to capture the essence of a concept graphically. And sometimes it isn’t. JSON is a tough one. It belongs to the same world as XML and CSV (yes really), and should probably look textual in some sense. Crockford’s icon is prominent but has not been adopted at the OS level. TLAs on ‘paper’ icons aren’t even trying. |

Unless you put the type as text on the icon is going to be hard to tell an xml icon from a json one I guess. I guess it’s like picking icons for sprite, gif, jpeg, tiff, png … they are all bitmap graphics formats, but their icons have little to show that. Gif used to be a drawing of a house IIRC, jpeg was an eye… |

Cough. It was filmed and began broadcast in ’69. My mom, who went to Woodstock (yes, that Woodstock) would tell me that the 70s were when it all started to go wrong. The chicken in every pot (50s) led to the summer of love (60s) but by then things started to go wrong so I was born into a world with an oil crisis and a toilet paper shortage. The unions walking en mass for any and every reason under the sun, was it a three day week or a four? Then along came Maggie to break the unions and break the newspapers (something needed nowadays), but unfortunately she broke everything else too. I guess in every generation “you had to be there”. I mean, I can remember the girl across from where I lived dressing up in neon green and blue and pink and yellow at the same time and that was just how things were. I don’t think anybody would be caught dead dressed like that now, save for a 40-50 year old doing retro fancy dress. Just wondering… What the hell would anybody have to say about the 90s? Did anything even happen in the 90s? The only thing I can think of is the rise of the personal computer, the internet, and satellite television, but all of these were evolutions of what came before (like BSB when D2-MAC was a thing, and internet from arpa, etc). |

Wasn’t that from FYEO? |

I “cheated” a bit; I didn’t submit a formal request but rather just asked ROOL whether we could have a JSON type. |

That’s the one. |

I recall the Acorn Developer day brief for RISC OS 3.60. The guy (I don’t recall who was introducing) announced “This is the main focus for RISC OS 3.60” and up popped the giant eye icon on the projector! Obviously we’d all been using JPEGs before that, but forget the word “JPEG”, RO3.60 was all about that “eye” :) Nemo – that Anarchy icon should definitely be the “unknown filetype” icon in at least one theme ;) |

Edited to be more anarchic. |

There speaks someone who hasn’t seen the inside of a UK store for many years. 1 Literally, close by my eyes were watering with the combo of bright lights above and the PINKness which was visible several aisles away reflecting off ceiling surfaces… |

I’d just love a setup that used that as the official icon for unknown filetype. Definitely “thinking outside the box.” :) |

Did somebody actually make a json icon and is it available somewhere? I would like to use json in a program and if there is an icon I would like to use it – otherwise I need to do it myself. |

I certainly didn’t, but of course I can’t speak for anyone else. |
