Printing woes

Before my Iyonix died I printed to my Epson PX700W using a USB connection and Gutenprint v2.32, plus PrintSpool v2.18e.

After I changed to a Titanium I found that I needed Gutenprint v2.42 to avoid aborts, and I re-installed printing starting with RISC OS 5.24 with !Printers v1.89.

This appeared to work on my test print … but I now suspect it was too small to trigger my problem. When I try to print a fuller page, it seems to happily work and the printer prints the top inch or so… but then starts formfeeding, sometimes with a few rubbish lines at the top of a page. The only way I can find to stop it is to turn the printer off!

Additional notes

- My printer was one which was affected by a Gutenprint internal printer name change to StPhPX700W, which I think is correct.

- I fixed a GPsetup problem by using
*set PrinterChoices$Path <Printers$ChoicesRW>
so it could read the !Printers configuration file so the setup could be saved.

- The PS3 driver v1.21, Ghostcript 8.71-2 and PrintPDF v1.12 are also installed, and PDF printing works fine.

I have checked and re-checked my installation several times, to no avail. If anyone has any clues what I might have done wrong, or where to look next, I would be very grateful (as I am just about to be asked to print envelopes for cards!).

It would also be interesting to hear of comparable working installations!
