Pi - Can't get audio other than via HDMI

Hi My system works fine, using hdmi_drive=2 However using hdmi_drive=1 which should send sound out through the audio socket, I get nothing. Are there any known issues? (Before I start plugging in Linux to test it.) thanks |

The headphone socket works fine for me with hdmi_drive=1. |

I have been working on something sound related and wanted to use headphones. Like Jess, I have happily been using hdmi_drive=2, but when I changed to =1 I only succeeded in cutting off the sound to HDMI, not restoring it to the audio socket. I suspect it would be tricky, but it would be useful to have a configuration option to switch between the two audio outputs. |

I’m not using any specific HDMI config in my config.txt, and get sound out of the headphone jack (I don’t have speakers on the monitor I’m using) with no problem. Here’s my config.txt in it’s entirety – I haven’t touched this since installing RISC OS, so am guessing it’s the default for the current version:

I have tried removing the hdmi_drive command completely, but with no better result. I think I have read that some settings get permanently stored in the GPU after the first installation, which may explain how your system works. I have no idea what or why about this. ;-) |

This may be complete coincidence, but I noticed this afternoon the sound on my pi getting quieter, then stopping altogether, then crackling back into life again sporadically. A quick wiggle of the cable seems to have fixed it for now, but I’ll pull the thing out of the case later and have a look at the solder joints around the audio socket. Like I say – may be a complete red herring, but could be worth a wiggle. |
