5.29 Boot and Configuration Problems

I’ve just installed RISC OS 5.28 on a micro SD card but I’m having problems configuring a couple of things.
When the system first boots up, I get a message “File ‘Share’ not found”. Then it says “No domain servers are configured… etc”. When I try to configure the internet Interfaces it says “No network interfaces were detected”.
Nor can I configure the display settings – when I change them and click ‘Set’ it says “Failed to open <PreDesk$Configure> for writing”.
I’m booting from a SCSI drive, as I did on previous versions of RISC OS and I’ve tried 5.28 on both Pi 3B and Pi 4, same problems. I’ve followed the instructions for installing 5.28 on Pi 4.
I’ve searched here but nothing I’ve found seems to quite fit these problems. I’ve tried everything I know but I’m stuck. Can anyone advise?

The installation instructions assume you’ll be running everything from an SD card. As you were doing an upgrade not a fresh install, you may have ended up with two !Boot directories: a 5.28 version on the SD card and an earlier version (e.g. 5.24) on the SCSI drive. While a new HardDisc4 with an old ROM should work, trying to use an old HardDisc4 with a new ROM is a recipe for disaster.

Did you actually upgrade !Boot on your SCSI drive? There’s an InSituBootUpdate file in the HardDisc4 archive that does it for you.

Thank you Stuart, that fixed the problems! I’m very grateful to you. Funny, but I don’t think I used InSituBootUpdate the last time I changed from one version to another, I seem to remember just updating everything by hand. Maybe I just got lucky but next time I’ll know better. Many thanks again.
