Timo, if you are softloading 5.28 then thats got the issue with 147/148 active modules corrupting memory and freezing the system, you need to try the latest beta 5.29 version, dated 22.12.2020, from Iyonix downloads here If that still gives a blank screen then you have another issue. Note I am only talking about finding the blanking issue here not your other issue. |

Given that the even numbered ones are supposed to be “stable”, shouldn’t this one be patched? |

Unfortenately still a black screen I installed according the instructions in the readme file of the softload for 5.29 beta but still a black screen ;-( |

It seems if you edit the post the date and time is not updated. Unfortenately the softload is still not working |

If it’s working for others, it could be a CMOS mismatch so try resetting the CMOS. Unfortunately both my Iyonix are bricked, so I can’t try to reproduce and test. |

The last thing I did with Louie’s and my Iyonix PCs before selling then was softload 5.28 on hers*, and flash 5.28 on mine, and there weren’t any problems. They both had fresh 5.28 hard disc images on them, which is something to try if you are having problems. *I’d never reflashed her’s so she didn’t want me breaking it after it had been sold, so I left 5.16 in flash. Where as I had reflashed my quite a few times, and was pretty confident it would work again. |

@John Abbott, I tried with the clean CMOS unfortenately that still gives a black screen. Yes I heard from some people including within the Big Ben Club who did do a successfull update. As long I get a black screen with the softload and with the risc of bricking the IYONIX I don’t think I will update at this moment. |

Just as a test, My used IDE-2-SATA interface is from StarTech amazon.co.uk link here below for who is interested: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00310MFPY/ No mods, no changes, just plugged it in the 2nd Iyonix IDE slot and then connected power and SSD. Both the SSD tested are from crucial, one is 120GB and the other is 240GB, both model BX500. Iyonix and RISC OS 5.28 recognised both disks from the first start up and HForm initialised both correctly, no issues whatsoever. Obviously the 120GB appears to be faster than the 240GB, but, beside that, they both seems to be working fine. Hope this help people in the future who may want to add SSD to the Iyonix. |

The actual 240GB drive is probably faster than the 120GB, as a family of drives tends to use 1/2/4 controller channels for 120/240/480 MB sizes, and the more channels in use means faster access. But of course what you are seeing is the Iyonix can only do fast UDMA on the first 128GB of a drive, and the remainder is accessed with much slower PIO. The map (located near the 50% point) should still be in the fast region with 240GB, but for drives over 512GB it will appear even slower. |
