Why not !SrcEdit by default?

As !SrcEdit is simply !Edit with more features, would it not make sense, in a future release, to retire the current !Edit and promote !SrcEdit (renaming it to !Edit to avoid confusion)? Unless of course the sources have diverged significantly over the years (I haven’t looked) but that seems unlikely. |

I have to say that Edit for me is better behaved than SrcEdit, which has for some while exhibited many redraw issues (on multiple systems of various vintages) |

I have to say that for many decades now StrongED has been my editor of choice. But it has become a large application (and why not, since there is memory to burn nowadays?) and I only use a fraction of its facilities. I only use a couple of fonts. I only use a couple of modes. I never use spell-checking or speech. I hardly ever have more than a couple of windows open at the same time. I even have a personalized minimal Basemode with only six items on the smarticon bar. Fred has disentangled the configurability to a large extent. But I am still left wondering how modular the sources are, and whether it would be possible to build a stripped down version. |

There was something about scrollbars not redrawing, right? I can’t say I’ve noticed issues but I don’t use !Edit or !SrcEdit regularly.
Mine too but as !Edit is shipped as a standard part of RISC OS, I was just pondering why not !SrcEdit instead. |

For me it is corrupt content displayed on scrolling SrcEdit windows, quite often. |
