GPS and RISC OS

I’m interested in getting this working, and willing to write a couple of desktop applications to make use of what the existing software does. I’ve ordered a couple of the GPS units mentioned, downloaded the software from the links you have kindly provided. This, just to let you know that I’m interested in developing this further.
Are there any developments subsequent to the posts above that it would be worth my while knowing about ?

Hi Martin, I’m not sure which GPS units you have bought.
I guess some devices would have low voltage levels at the board level, but for connecting to most serial equipment you will need one of the RS232 level shifter converters, built originally for arduino’s etc. They have a stndard 9pin D connector. It is female, so a non-crossover cable such as we once used with modems works fine for connecting to a desktop.
My now old Garmin GPS128 has an integrated connector, so it will need a custom cable made to get TX RX and Gnd to a 9 pin D male plug.

I bought the following GPS unit for £33
DIGILENT – PMOD GPS – PERIPHERAL MOD, GPS RECEIVER, MT3329
I’ve wired it directly to the Pi GPIO pins and am getting a burst of informtion each second via UART.
I’m starting think about how to look at the code being chucked out by the GPS unit.
Do you know of any code already written to parse what comes out ?
I’ve been surprised at how easy it was to connect it up :-)

Am making progress with my GPS application but still trying to save having to write code to parse the NMEA data from scratch.
Has anyone got the BBC Basic code from Tim Brocklehurst that was mentioned by patric aristide (434) in the post above ?

Update:
After several dud attempts I’ve got the bare bones of a !GPS application running smoothly on the desktop without dropping any of the data streaming off the MT3329 GPS hardware module into the Raspberry Pi.
Am now enthusiastically writing code to parse and display the NMEA sentences.
