Downloaded !Packman programs not working

Title says it all. I’ve downloaded mplayer and Firefox from packman and if I try to run either my system locks up. I’m still able to move the mouse but I cannot click or do anything else.

I’ve had no problems with anything downloaded from !Store and I’m using version 5.28 on a raspberry pi 4.

Firefox is a very old version. I doubt if it ever ran on a Pi 1, never mind a Pi 4.

The version of MPlayer available from PackMan dates from 2012. Once again I’m not surprised a Pi 4 chokes on it. You may have more luck with the version at https://www.riscosports.co.uk/vfp/ which claims to be a 2020 build.

Thanks for the response. After downloading that version of mplayer and extracting it I tried double clicking to run it and all it does is display a help text file. I tried downloading otter browser from your link as well and I get “an application that loads a file of this type has not been found by the filer” when I try to run it. Just having no luck with anything downloaded outside of !Store

Mplayer should run if you doubleclick a valid media file e.g. movie/mp4.
Mplayer has not an own frontend. If the mplayer window is open, you can use the shortkeys.
