Help Sought (!Killer??)

Hi all, I’m looking for some help, really. I recently picked up an A7000 on ebay, as I have a LOAD of old floppies (mainly games and the like) from many years ago when I used an A3010 (which I still have, but seldom dust off). Main reason I got the A7000 was for the Hard drive, which I didn’t have for the A3010, and my VERY limited knowledge wouldn’t have allowed me to upgrade. Now, when I’ve been looking through some old floppies, I’m getting the error message that the “Extend” virus is present, and to use !Killer to resolve the issue. Now, I remember this from years ago, and I had a copy of !Killer, but it would appear that the disk is corrupt, and as such I’m out of luck there. I’m just looking to see if there is anyone who can offer eitehr an alternate solution, or a way to remove the virus in some way so that I can actual access some of these old files that I’ve not seen for years. Please note that I am very limited in my knowledge of RISC, so if you can provide any hints and tips aimed at small children, that’d be really quite useful. Many Thanks |

John, welcome; I spotted this thread not so long ago. I trust that you’ll find it helpful. |

Many thanks, Andrew. I’ll have a look through that later on, and see if I can make head nor tail of it! Hopefully I can get the file across to the A7000 from my laptop (guess I’ll have to hunt out the old USB Floppy drive!) |

Well, thanks a lot, Andrew. That worked a treat, and I’ve been able to start plodding through the 200 or so floppies that I have stashed away (a number of which are old Archie World cover discs!) |

That’s good to hear; You’re very welcome. The people over at the Stardot forums have done and are doing an incredible job. I, too, have an extensive collection of floppy disks. Something I’ve been looking to do for years is try and find the BBC basic demo, a black and white animated cube made up of dots. Sadly, it keeps getting prioritised; one day! If only I hadn’t binned the magazines! :) |

You may also want to consider looking at the battery mounted on the motherboard for any signs of corrosion or leakage; it’s probably fine, but worth a look. |
