Cannot find NewsBase

I have Messenger Pro 8.04, NetFetch 5.51 and !NewsDir
sitting next to each other in a directory. But when I start Messenger it says it is unable to find NewsBase.
This is on a Rpi3B+ with RO 5.27. Can anyone suggest what is wrong?

What does show news do?

I get:-

Thanks. I think I have found the root cause of my problems. Medium error on the hard-disk, so necessary stuff is not copied. Now busy rescuing what I can.

I used DiscKnight to repair the hard-disk.
Still get Messenger is unable to find NewsBase .

A number of Newsbase$* variables are missing. These should get set in !Messenger.Servers.!MsgServe.!Run2. It may be that installation is incomplete or broken still, I see from earlier posts that something has had to be DiscKnight’d.
