Iyonix CD

Does anybody still have a copy of the Iyonix CD that came with the machines originally? I have heard that it contains the 32 bit ARMovie files. |

(mumble… grumble… it would have to be in the storage box at the bottom of the pile, wouldn’t it?) If you meant the copy of !ARMovie in !Boot.Resources and !ARPlayer in Apps, then yes they’re both present. Those two applications clock in at 13MB compressed. I regret I don’t have any web space to host the archive, but I could email it if you let me know your email address. |

Thanks for that, not happy with the current RISC OS 5 it seems, i had high hopes… Any patching i can do or is it simply not compatible? |

My understanding is that it’s Iyonix-only. I suspect Castle got permission to do a one-off conversion for the Iyonix, but as the application is closed-source there probably isn’t much hope of getting it running on recent hardware. |

Are you talking about the player – or a means of generating vid files? If the player – I patched a copy from – I think a RPC – to run on my Iyonix (what seems long ago) Watching fish’s swimming around ,:-) |

Be aware that 32 bitting something sufficient to run on the Iyonix does not mean that it will run on more modern 32 bit chips. The XScale was rather forgiving on some instructions (like non aligned loads I think). Also the SCL was ‘corrected’ subsequent to RISC OS 5.16 so that some software (notably !Writer) no longer works on the Iyonix. |

And it’s stupid. I loved it and I’m sure it will be still usefull as it’s also a very open framework (possibly) compatible with more modern codecs. Rant… |
