Decoding EU Covid certificates?

I have installed Python and pip from PackMan.
Then added TaskRunner (shouldn’t this be a dependency given Python seems to fail to start without it?).

Then python3 -m pip install cose downloads a few things, and eventually fails with (extremely long line hard-wrapped to fit):

There’s no module called pkg_resources and it isn’t known to pip. Is this not supported on RISC OS yet, or have I screwed up something?

[note: I know exactly zero Python; I only installed it because, well, that’s what the decoder is written in]

I believe it is part of SetupTools which you install via pip.

Although it wont help.
I have setuptools installed but get the same result as you when pip installing cose.

Python

“no module called pkg_resources” is a common search on the web.
The common answer is that setuptools is broken and that you should reinstall it.
This does not seem to be easy. I get:-

Looks as if we need an expert.

Third go:
cose library may contains C modules which RISC OS pip cannot load.

At the moment you can only install pure Python modules
using pip on RISC OS. C modules need to be built
but the build environment doesn’t exist.
