SparkFS

A long time ago I think I paid £25 to David Pilling for a read/write version of SparkFS (1.46 I think the version was). This summer my hard disk suffered a fault and !SparkFS would no longer work. I would not mind paying another £25 to get a read/write version that runs on an Rpi4, but I don’t want to create a PayPal account, and it looks as though David Pilling’s website forces one to do that. How should I proceed? |

Normally with Paypal, when you get to the login page, there’s an option “pay as guest”. It doesn’t need a Paypal account, but will collect credit card details from you. |

Do you not have a backup of the disc that failed? Or the original SparkFS disc or download? Or have you tried to upgrade to latest version from DP website to correct the duff copy you have? |

Send David a mail. He will help, sure. |

Yes he has. He explained that SparkFS works by loading modules into the RMA and these are not necessarily removed when it quits. It is the modules that determine whether SparkFS is read-only or not. So if a read-only set of modules is loaded, any subsequently started versions of SparkFS will appear to be read-only also. Thanks to David I have it sorted now. |

So if a read-only set of modules is loaded, any subsequently started versions of SparkFS will appear to be read-only Thanks for that. That behaviour of SparkFS has plagued me for years and has caused me to reboot to get around it. It is good to know the cause at last. Thanks. |
