Risc PC with LCD monitor

As far as I can see, a Risc PC should work with an LCD monitor with D-SUB mini 15pin socket via a cable with D-SUB mini 15pin (or 14 pins) plugs at both ends. The monitor is an Iiyama B2409 HDS-1. One such cable has all 15 pins in 3 rows of 5 and the other has one less pin in the middle row – does it matter? |

Pin 9 (the missing one on your 14-pin cable) supplies power from the computer to the monitor’s EDID EEPROM, so that the EDID can be read by the computer at all times, even if the monitor is switched off. |

Thanks for that. I could just test the 15-pin D-SUB cable I have on the Risc PC rather than asking folk on the forum; but my study is a bit of a mess with the Risc PC deeply embedded under a pile of other stuff, and I want to be sure it will work with an LCD monitor before I take the CRT monitor to the recycling dump! I can live without EDID on the Risc PC. |

I have found my current LCD to be much less tolerant of the RISC PC’s output than the old CRT, especially on RO4, where I get lots of image breakup. YMMV. RO5 output seems a lot more stable for me. |

The LCD probably expects VESA timings in the MDF to get a stable display, where as with a CRT you could get away with making up the numbers as you went along, and twiddling the screen size/position adjustment until it worked. |
