Does Iris do Popups?
David R. Lane (77) 766 posts |
Iris will not download files on some websites. On one wbsite nothing happens; but, when I try with Firefox on Linux, a Firefox message appears asking whether I accept a popup. Accepting, results in the popup opening a file in a new window which I can then download. So it looks as if Iris doesn’t accept popups. I can’t see anything about popups in Iris choices or the readme. |

Try right clicking on the download link, that has worked for me in the past, it tends to open a empty tab but shows the download save icon. |

In addition to what Chris has said:
What version of IRIS is this? As it is beta software have you reported the behavour you have seen back to the developers including what system you are running it on and the OS version. |

What brokenness is it to offer downloads on popups, given that world+kitten generally block popups due to their typically undesirable behaviour. |

The list is not short. However, for a Beta release, it is very impressive. |

Some examples might help. Again which version of !Iris are you using? |

- multitask on startup - shut down properly (sometimes) - run for more a few hours without freezing the system - Starting Iris moves netsurf cursor! - Does not always work well with Amazon or my bank - Consumes CPU time when it should be idle - Viewing some GitLab pages freezes the system - freezes whe viewing Daily Post website Iris v1.019 on Pi 4 5.29 (Feb 22) But, as I said, very impressive, and many times saves me having to use RDPclient to a Windows box. |

My version of Iris is 1.020 (23rd January 2022). The date seems to conflict with the date for version 1.019! On the PhoneCoop website when I go to download an invoice, I get no response if I right click on the link, labelled view; and, if I left click on the link, I get a ‘pdf’ file which I download to find that it is a DOCTYPE HTML file of the webpage, not the invoice. :-(( |

There is a later version (1.021 10th May 2022). This has more RISC OS like features. |

I don’t know where you get that version from, but the zip file I have downloaded has file name Iris-May2022c/zip, and inside the zip !Iris is dated 11th May with the ChangeLog giving the latest version as 1.020. |

You have mis-read my post. The date is for RO 5.29 – which needs a date to identify the build. The Iris version does not need a date. |

Why not simply look in the Info window (from the iconbar menu). |
David R. Lane (77) 766 posts |
@Bryan Your quote from my post referred to Chris Johnson’s post, not your post! @Chris Johnson Yes, I also look in the Info window from the iconbar menu. |

I am confused. |

There must be an answer to the topic title. In Firefox and other browsers, preferences allows one to choose to block popups, or block all except those from a list of specified sites. I don’t see any such option in Iris, but maybe I have missed something. |

How/where can this be downloaded? !Store is still carrying v.1.19 AFAICS. |

version 1.021 is I think only availalble to the Investor group currently. But see below. When you got your version of Iris via !Store you would have been given a link to get Iris have you rechecked the link ? |

Unfortunately I won’t have access to my RO system for the next 3 weeks but thanks for the tip. |
