With firms wanting to be payed via the Internet – what about making use of UK Stamps for payment for relative small amounts? |

I doubt that no small table-top enterprise will send letters in enough volume these days for that to work. Businesses have franking machines – what are stamps?. If you complete your transaction electronically, including payment, the vendor knows that you’ve paid and can send you the goods that day. |

This is all symptomatic of the later (last) gasps of the body of people wanting to use payment tokens (cash etc.) Having spent a fortnight in London (working @ GBBF for anyone interested) I found most pubs and catering businesses tended to only take cash if you tendered the exact amount and sometimes were card only. |

I certainly find it much more convenient not to use cash. I realised that I can dispense with carrying a wallet. My mobile phone case has space for a few cards, so I carry just theose I might need. I do also carry one note of money (currently £20, although that’s big enough that its edge gets bent in the fold of the case, so I prefer £5 or £10 when I can get them) just in case I do need a bit of cash. Happens maybe a couple of times a year. The only person who has to have cash is our window cleaner, so we have to go to a cash machine every few months, primarily for him. Bloody nuisance. We went to Costa this morning, and I paid with the phone (Barclaycard via their app and NFC). |

Ah, we had that with the local milkman – his son did all the collecting1 and wanted to set up an account with a mobile P.O.S as he was the one doing the walking around after his proper job. 1 Collecting with repeat visits to the houses where people permanently seemingly had “no cash” |
