Text selection in NetSurf's URL bar

Using RISC OS 5.28 text selection (and C&P etc) is supported in WIMP writable icons. However it doesn’t work in NetSurf’s URL bar. I’ve been trying to work out why, but I’ve had no luck. It works in NetSurf’s other writable icons. I am not sure if there is a problem in NetSurf. I believe it worked on RISC OS Select (if memory serves), so it may be a RISC OS 5 issue. I’ve added all sorts of logging to: And confirmed that it doesn’t matter whether they return true or false. (I thought maybe returning true would indicate the mouse action had been consumed, and the WIMP behaviour wouldn’t happen.) I’ve tried changing some flags and the validation code where the icon is created as well, but that hasn’t helped either. I’ve also tried disabling stuff like the URL completion code, but I’m getting nowhere. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be up with it? |

It’s weird. You can paste into NetSurf’s URL bar so long as you have copied the text to the clipboard in another application! Taking text from another application, unsurprisingly you can Selection > Save (or similar) into NetSurf’s URL bar. But you can’t do that from NetSurf to itself. [Edit: And, as if by magic, I can now paste into NetSurf’s URL bar – what the hell did I do?] |

Have you got any clipboard utilities loaded? |

John-Mark worked out what it was. On RISC OS 5 text selection works with So it will work correctly if you use NetSurf development build #5363 or later. |

Thanks to the team for this as this version allows me to move on from 3.10 and also gets some websites displaying that stopped doing so as well. |
