Problem installing HardDisc4 on BBXm

I had a problem with my USB-stick containing !boot, so I had to reinstall HardDisc4 on a new stick.

1. I put the new HardDisc4/util from the download-section of this website on an USB-stick. Also of course the install-script from the manual-section. My BBXm has RISC OS 5.18 on the microSD card.

After booting and changing the the type to TaskExec the script always breaks with the error-message

File name ‘SCSI::“Unset”.HardDisc4/util’ not recognised at line 70

Line 70 if the script says:
70BIC R0, R0, #2

Any ideas what’s going wrong? Currently I can’t use my Rpi to create a new Bootdisc, as I have no working USB-hub left. (And all shops are closed now here, it’s Saturday evening…)

I mean the new HardDisc4/util is problematic with the old 5.18 ROM. Use a older HardDisc (mail me, I can send) or a new 5.19 ROM. I mean to use the actually 5.19 ROM is the better way. They are (m)any good changes inside and it works stable on my xM and Pandora.
Note: If RISC OS is working (may be *desktop in the CLI helps) you can remove the microSD and recreate a new one with a external cardreader. Or use WIN to copy the new ROM on it.

Not sure if you are referring to the harddisc4/util download, but this should be set to filetype ‘utility’, as it is a self-extracting archive. Then double click to run it, when the hard drive image will be extracted.

I’ve made a downgrade to 5.18, because 5.19 from 24.Feb. was not working properly with Netsurf. (resp. not with my old Harddisc4.) That was the beginning of all my BBXm troubles…

With creating a 5.19 Rom at the PC there is again the chicken-and-egg-problem: The BBXm can’t boot from that Rom, because I have to change the MLO and uboot.bin to working ones. That is of course not possible, as 5.19 no longer uses the FAT file system. With 5.18 that is no problem. But without a working system on my BBXm, I can’t update the rom on my BBXm…

Next step done: I’ve set the filetyp of harddisk4/util to utility, and was able to extract it. I found HForm and formatted the new USB-Stick. Then I’ve selected all content of the Harddisc4 drawer and tried to copy it to the new formatted stick. But it stops with a “division by zero error” during copying. That could be a problem of the old 5.18 rom, I will try to make a workaround for that.

The documentation here on this website should really be updated! Also it wouldn’t cost a leg to put an extra download of the 5.19 rom-images on this website: for BB and BBXM…

Raik, could you please send me a) an old HardDisc4 image or a working 5.19 rom for a newer BBXm, which I can install here on a PC? My e-mail is sysop “at” retrocom “dot” de.

You can use the latest OMAP3 ROM from ROOL. Download this in WIN and copy riscos from the Archive to your microSD FAT patition.
I will send a mail…
