Supported Keyboards

I recently bought a new smaller keyboard due to desk space and have had no luck getting it to work properly on the Pi 4 4GB. It works fine running linux but has odd behaviour in RISC OS. I can get the letters to work for a short time when loading !HID but then they stop working. Keyboard is a Corsair K65 Mini |

I too (some years back) had a poor experience with a mini USB kbd and RISC OS. Gave up! |

Generally, the more complicated a keyboard is, the more it’s liable to cause problems. I use my Microsoft wireless keyboard with the PC as the integrated touchpad stiffs RISC OS. It supports various gestures and multiple touch points, so god only knows what sort of data it is flinging at poor simple little RISC OS expecting a bog simple mouse… |

I like my Perixx keyboard (periboard-324) The keys are backlit, so I can work in the dark (!) and it has a built-in USB Hub, so that I can plug in the mouse and even a USB mSATA SSD. Then the Pi 4 can live glued to the back of the monitor. |

Was there ever a serial keyboard? I’ve have used a serial three button mouse before on a Iyonix. |

What causes the issue with keyboard handling? Surely we have HID device support coming in the future. |

@ Chris
When using USB devices with a Pi, the first thing to check is if the device (or the set of devices) are not using to much power, and some RGB/HID keyboard can do that. If in doubt use a self powered USB HUB in between. Also ensure your Raspberry Pi PSU is of good quality and can deliver enough power. I have seen all sorts of weird behaviours with cheap PSU, from issues with the USB devices up to system resets or even system not fully booting up. Other devices may need some help, there is some utility (apologies, I forgot the name now) that can reset the USB or something and allow a “re-detection”. Finally some USB device really seems not happy with RISC OS 5 USB stack, hopefully it’s not your case.
There is already HID support for RISC OS, !HID: |
