!HID scroll wheel crash

Can anyone remind me what it is that causes !HID’s scroll wheel support module (WIMPScroll) to crash when used with certain windows? I seem to remember it was something in the window’s setting, maybe certain flags set etc. I find it really useful for scrolling Ovation Pro documents but if I scroll over certain Applet windows it causes a Data Abort / Invalid address error in WindowManager. Everything seems fine afterwards but I have to restart !HID’s WIMPScroll module to get scroll wheel support back. |

If template window then on certain version of RISC OS 5.. the minimum size for x and y must be divisavle by 4 I think. |

I had issues with HID’s WimpScroll module, interfering with the RISC OS 5.29 WindowScroll module. In former versions of HID the module couldn’t be switched off, in spite of what the menu shows. But the latest, and free, version can. |

Odd, as here I have WindowScroll present, but not WindScroll, yet OPro responds to scrolling. I’m running RO5.29 21-Dec-22, Windowscroll 0.02 29 apr 2020 and OPro 5.78f 13 June 2021 (which I probably should update). |

@ Gavin, I have never used !HID and as long as you gone into the Mouse Configuration option in the OS Configuartion window, near the bottom of the Mouse configuration window is the scrooll Wheel settings. I have my ‘target’ set to ’ Window under the pointer’ and it works in OPro here. |

@Alan and @Chris I’m still on an old version of RO (5.29 03-Nov-20), which I really should update, but as this is my main production machine I don’t like messing with it too much until I know I’ve got some free time to address any issues that may arise. One thing I have noticed is that if I go to Configure the mouse setting, whenever I OK/Set the setting it freezes the mouse completely and I need to re-boot. Probably fixed in newer versions. |

With !HID running on a Pinebook, some apps scroll that don’t normally respond to a scroll wheel on RO5. However, OPro does respond to a scroll wheel in the absence of !HID. |

<shrug> I never used HID. Found it crashy on my Pi1 (might have been a peculiarity of my setup?) so I just didn’t use it. OvationPro 2.77y (yikes, I probably ought to update the one on this machine!), and RISC OS 5.29 (23rd April build). Putting the pointer over OvationPro and flicking the wheel scrolls nicely, just using the OS functionality (no HID). I tried scrolling various applets (Cookie, Access, FrameMaker, Calc, Convertor…) but none of them actually had any reason to scroll, so nothing happened. My scroll defaults are also “Window under pointer”, but I never set this up. I didn’t even know it was an option until the message two above. ;) |
