VRPC-DL Model

VRPC-DL is supplied with an “Arm7 RISC OS 4 (JIT)”. Does anyone know if it is possible to Run VRPC-DL using another model like “Arm7500 RISC OS Adjust (Jit)”? Thanks |

Not easily I would suggest. I would imagine it would need some sort of ‘hacking around’ I think VRPC-DL is designed to be a lower cost solution. Ready to run without the ‘unlocking’ / security set up usually assocaited with VRPC installations. I would suspect if you asked 3QD they would point you to the more expensive options available on the main Virtual Acorn site. VRPC-SA by way of example can start in “Arm7 RISC OS 4 (JIT)”. Arm7500 RISC OS 4 (Jit) or StrongArm RISC OS 4 (Jit) and there is a more exepensive ‘adjust’ version too |

Acorndave. From very vague recollections… I think you maybe right. Over the years I’ve had a number of the above mentioned versions, the last one being VRPC-AdjustSA, running the StrongArm (Jit) which is still installed on one of my machines and still works. VRPC-DL being more flexible, and the way I need to use apps these days is the way I went, and by purchasing a couple of copies, enables me to do the particular work I do… I would be nice to have the ARM7500 ability to use the mouse scroll, but hey ho, I’m not going to change my working practice just for that one option. :-( Thanks |

Been using VRPC DL with RO 4/5 for some years – RO5 soft loads – very solid performer. It would be handy if the master of ARM instructions could add some of missing SA extras. Does anyone here know how to make the ROM image that VRPC uses – should work with all ROM images – like Red Squirrel. Someone here I believe has a version of DL on a Stick – that they can carry around to various 486 computers. |

I used to have an install of VRPC-DL on a memory stick, but it was rather slow, so I now have a VRPC-DL RO 6.20 on a small Samsung USB-3 SSD drive. (Samsung Portable SSD T5) Size: 75 × 55 × 10 mm So very mobile when visiting and I want RO available. Dave |

As a matter of interest does the Win OS query running a prog from USB3 SSD? |

If you mean. When I plug the drive into an SSD port, does the Windows OS do anything other than display the filer window of the SSD. Then I Run the VRPC or RPCEmu executable. Not that I’ve encountered. Maybe the few times I’ve done it I’ve been lucky… Dave |

Mmmn! Pondering some more on that question and remembered. It’s been a while since I used the SSD portable drive while out and about, and yes When the VRPC executable is run, Windows brings up the usual in these circumstances… Something along the lines of… Clicking “Allow access” sorts that out. Footnote to my last posting: While out… I took it with me to another computer (W10) and plugged it in, VRPC-DL RO 6.20 ran okay. Dave |

Forgot to mention… While I was at it, out and about with the portable SSD, I tested RPCEmu running RO 5.28 and that also worked okay. Dave |

Just as an aside, I used to use VRPC-SA-Adjust. However the laptop has wired and wireless network ports. I can either license VRPC-SA-adjust with wireless active, with wired active, or both active. However when the laptop decides to switch between these options, such as when in a field accessing via a phone hotspot, VRPC fails to run. In a field is my most critical time for it to work so… I switched to VRPC-DL and no longer have problems. |
