I wanted to save a text, but StrongED says: StrongED may have gone wrong. Click Continue to try to resume or Quit to stop StrongED. What’s wrong here? I use Risc OS 5.28 with a Raspberry Pi 3B+ Micky |

I get this on odd occasions. I click “continue” and it usually does. As a precaution I then usually restart the computer. |

Risc OS now comes with 4.70a which seems to be an alpha version. There are numerous bugs in this version, which you may expect for an alpha. I fixed this by downloading version 4.69 which is the last stable release. Most issues disappeared using a stable release. http://www.stronged.iconbar.com/ Is it a mistake for the default to be 4.70a on a Risc OS download? |

This might have changed in 4.69f12, but certainly until recently you needed 4.70 if you had more than 2GB RAM in the machine. Given the target system for the Pi download (I assume this is what you’re referring to as “RISC OS”), using 4.70 makes sense on that basis. |

Thanks. Version 4.69 runs. Micky |

I see. That explains why I have no issues with 4.69f, I have Pi 4 with 2GB. The original poster has a Pi 3B+ which has a maximum of 1GB so in their case they may be best downloading the stable version 4.69 at the moment. |

4.69f13 is the version which seems to be running on my Pi 4, 4GB.
Does it? |

Well, as I wrote in the text that you selectively quoted from, “This might have changed in 4.69f12, but certainly until recently you needed 4.70 if you had more than 2GB RAM in the machine”. I’m not a heavy StrongED user, so am not that familiar with what works where, but the release notes suggest that the 4GB fix was back-ported from 4.70 to 4.69f12. As such, 4.69f13 being happy on a 4GB Pi isn’t too surprising! |

Prickly! My selective quoting was for brevity, nothing else. My mention of 4.69f13 was for info, nothing else. |

Steve is correct, the changes needed to run on machines with more than 2GB of memory have been back-ported from 4.70 to 4.69f12 so that the stable release runs on such machines also. The latest stable release, 4.69f13, is the recommended version for all machines. StrongED 4.70a15, the latest alpha, should only be used if you want to test it or if you need the new features it offers. The alpha release is known to have a very elusive bug in it. Sometimes it happens regularly, sometimes it’s not seen for weeks. Worse, if the bug is where I suspect it is, it will actually correct itself. So you can’t easily reproduce it by tracing your last step(s) which makes it hard to find and fix. |

Which I suspect would be a step up from the usual “AI”1 rehash of code from humans. 1 I have a work2 colleague who does an exaggerated yawn when potential suppliers start talking about their “AI enabled” product. 2 Still do some days, fun and pocket money. |
