BB-xm SD card.

Good morning everybody. Sorry to bother you, but I’m quite sick searching here and there… so I came here for a quick answer.. if possible.
I’m a noob on risc os, I played with it time ago on my Beagleboard xm, and I read about the sd card support added in risc os.
What I m missing is: can I have a complete system running from sd card now? instead of having the HD on my usb key?
I feel abit dumb, but I don’t understand about the !boot process… after uboot loads the kernel (riscos file I suppose) it looks for a !boot directory right? If I put that on the same fat partition should it work? Thank u very much, have a nice day.

It works. For the first attempt I have adapted the RPi image. At first the FAT partition (delete the RPi stuff and copy the xM files on it), then after boot the RISC OS !Boot directory. The problem is that RISC OS is very picky with the microSD card.
I currently have a 16GB system under test.
You need a changed cmos. You con find one in the download area of my Pandora homepage .

Thank you very much… anyway.. I tried but doesn’t load the !boot (I used the sefextractin HD4 archive). If I try to launch it manually from *Desktop I get an &FC183370 error (actually I cant find what it means… :-).
I notice now, I missed the part about the cmos file… I ll give it a try! thanks alot!

Ops.. just as a further info… if I try to launch !boot manually from command line I get something like “Error: Internal error: abort of data transfer” (&FC183370 code.. which I couldn’t find on google..).

I have upload a Basic 4GB Image .
Under Win you can write this direct with USBit or extrakt it and use Win32Imager.
You can also use the extract Image with SDCreate (disable Create Image) under RISC OS.
The Image contains only the Bootfiles and the HDImage. The only additional is Fat32FS in Utilities with a obey (thanks to Chris Gransden) to mount the FAT Partition.
It works with my Rev. B und C xM and with a Samsung 4GB but not with a Scandisk.

Thank you very much… I will give it a try tonight. Even if as I pointed out, when if I try to launch the !boot from cli after moving into the sd card filing system I get the transfer error… I would like to understand why it happens… we’ll see… :-)

If I understand your (mail) right, you will boot from one (FAT?) partition. This is not possible, I mean. You need a FAT partition for the bootloader stuff and a adfs one for RISC OS.

Ok, just to let u know… I tried the new 4gb image… but unluckily seems like my 4gb card is abit.. smaller…!! (just some kb) so the process of writing the .img didn’t work… I was thinking about just to “cut the file” abit.. but maybe this could lead in problems later. I don’t think there’s a simple way to stretch a risc os partition from windows, so I ll think about something tomorrow. Again, thank u very much for the support u gave me.

I have also a 2GB Image. The Problem is, the Card was a old one. The content is the same as the 4GB Image but USBit can’t compress this. It is much bigger (20x) as the 4GB image :-(
Extract it is 2GB. If I have a little bit time I will try the RISC OS compact option, later I will upload this.

Ops… maybe its my fault, but I ll tell u to let you know.. seems like after a restart the file system get somehow corrupted… I ll make some tests… let me know if u re interested in some specific tests for me to do.
So far I tried 3 times, writing the 2gb img to SD starting the sys (everything ok) end restarting it, after that, some FS problems. I also tried dismounting the SD0 before restarting but the problem still appear.

I not use the 2GB card with my xM. Only for the Pandora distro, but not often. With the xM 4GB and 16GB. But I have try (m)any cards before I find a compatible one. Not all cards working fine. I don’t no why. I mean there is a list at the elinux site.
I will play around with the 2GB card and give a info.

If I had a problem with this, you became not a answer ;-)
Look at a mail from last week and try your own cmos. Maybe it helps.

I have copy round about 1GB Data to the 2GB card and configure a complete system with network (LAN, UMTS), sound and any programms like Photodesk, Netsurf, TechWriter, Messenger Pro etc. and boot only from SD. No problems. All things are working fine.

Are you actually telling me that the 2GB img, that gives me some filesystem problems is working for you?

And yes. This is what I telling you. I have used the card from witch I make the image. The card I have filled with any stuff from my HD.
I have round about 350MB free. It works fine over the last two days with my xM Rev. C. With my Rev.B I have not try this.
May be a other card works for you.
