Iyonix UDMA Question

When I purchased my Ioyonix, way back, it came with a ‘UDMA card’. This card was poked in the end of the upper 64bit pci slot, along with the usb card. I originally thought it was something broken off the end of some other card :-)

One of the highlights of the Iyonix was its udma support, so my question is, does this little ‘offcut’ provide that suppport or does it add something extra, like udma support over the 128GB limit? Is it therefore only of use if using drives over that, like the 250GB drive that came with my Iyonix?

I believe you’re referring to a terminator board. I’m not entirely sure why it’s required, PCI-X noise suppression perhaps? I have three Iyonix, only one of which came with the board and I’ve not noticed any difference with or without it fitted.

The 128GB limit is simply down to the DMA controller address width.

IIRC the Iyonix was supposed to support 32 bit and 64 bit PCI cards, but if the system only contained 32 bit card cards (by default the USB and graphics cards) a terminator board had to be placed on the upper half of the bus to prevent problems.

I think I might have had a 64 bit graphics card in mine by the time I sold it, so didn’t need the terminator board, but I can’t honestly remember.

There was a mod which facilitated startup of the bus in 32bit only mode I believe, by closing a link. The Iyo in question has had the mod done but no link fitted. Having removed the ‘terminator’ and fitted a link things seenm very stable at the moment.

No. I purchased a third Iyonix.

The first two both have damaged Flash chips that need replacing. On one of them, I’ve tried flashing a new chip and replacing it, but it refuses to boot. I’ve not attempted repair on the 2nd, although have removed the Flash chip and have a replacement to try. I wasn’t going to attempt it until I had the first working though.

It would be far easier if John Ballance would kindly release the software/instructions on how to flash them remotely.
