Iconise to Icon Bar

Hi, As the team lead on the RISC OS development team has said a few times, the Icon Bar he invented is good because it is regimented about what things go on what side and suggested that other operating systems weren’t always so consistent. I have always wondered why windows get iconised to the left next to the filing systems and not the right by the applications. To such an extent when I returned to RISC OS I wrongly thought that the behaviour had been changed since 5.24 to 5.28. Is it because that’s how a version of Windows worked so we try to avoid copying? Then maybe that option could be made configurable, so by default RISC OS iconises to the left but it can be changed to the right. Does anyone in the community know the history of this feature? When did it appear etc. I’m just interested that’s all. I’d love to do an application to make this configurable but that’s way too advanced for me. Maybe I’m only one of few that likes iconising to the Icon Bar and not to the Pinboard? Thanks. |

It would maybe be better to write a Pinboard program to reside on the Icon Bar, when clicked (files pinned by Alt-Select?) open its window showing the pinned files, to be run/opened by Select click. That way the Icon Bar which can be pretty cramped would be reserved for running programs and the Classic Desktop maintained. |

My system is set to iconise to top right, stacked vertically. It’s a Configure option for Pinboard. |

Mr s i think thats an excellent idea. I think that’s easier to program than doing things to iconised windows on the iconbar. Although opening something else from the iconbar will probably lead to that something else getting cramped. |

I’ve never heard of iconising windows to the iconbar. How do you do that? In my usage of RISC OS I think I would very quickly run out of iconbar space. |

Configure, Pinboard options, iconise to. Not totally intuitive, as I expected to find it in filer options. |

I don’t see that option here. But it might be missing as an option in Pinboard 2 which is what I use. I have never ever felt the need to iconise windows to the icon bar anyway. |

I had to look carefully indeed before I found it (in Pinboard 2): Configure – Pin arrangement – Iconise to. |

Well found Paul ! I never thought to look at that option. |
