How to confirm gateway settings?

Hi, I am having trouble getting the network connection to work on my pi when connected through my Windows XP PC using ICS. The XP ICS is working, that has been checked with another PC (Windows 7). The pi is also working fine when connected directly to my hub. But when I connect the pi to the PC with ICS it doesn’t work. I can ping the Windows machine from the pi and vice versa, but from the pi I can’t ping any further (eg the hub or any external addresses). I believe it is the “gateway” setting that controls this? I’ve set it to 192.168.0.1 which is the IP address of the windows ICS machine and that is reachable, but it can never get to the “other side” of the Windows machine (which is in the 192.168.1.* address range). Typign ifconfig it doesn’t show anything about the gateway address for the adapter, does this mean it hasn’t been set somehow or is that normal that it doesn’t show up? Any ideas how to troubleshoot this further? |

Is this the RISC OS DHCP client not always working properly with Windows DHCP server problem? If so, you might just have to enter all the details manually on the RO side. Or have you got it on DHCP but also typed the gateway in manually? IIRC that causes the network initialisation to bomb out halfway through because it gets confused by having two sources for the same info. *ifconfig -a will show interface configuration |

Sorry for long delay but I’ve been having huge problems and not much time to look at it. In the end I think I messed up the settings on the XP box so much that now when I plug my other Windows machine in it doesn’t work either :-( I might just invest in a long cable! |

In the end I just bought one of these TL-WR702N for £15 and it works perfectly in client mode with the pi :-) |
