Does the Ethernet port not work with risc?

I’m plugging it in but just get “could not contact DNS servers” on everything and I only have an Ethernet over USB option in interfaces. Thanx for the help. |

That message means that an internet address cannot be translated into a TCP/IP address because the computer does not know the address of a DNS (domain name server). The DHCP process sometimes gives this information but RISC OS does not explicitly ask for it (I think). The solution is to specify a couple of DNS addresses in !Boot.Configure.Network (run !Boot, select ‘Network’ then ‘Internet’ then ‘Host names’ and add a primary and secondary name server) and reboot. |

Should I be getting graphical errors? Like when I move a window it leaves like a square or a handful of them behind of the window I just moved. Looks like memory corruption or something… |

What version of RISC OS are you using? The issues you mention sound like some present in early versions of RISC OS for the Pi. These have now been fixed. |

Specifically, are you using the version of RISC OS in the NOOBS distro? If so, then don’t. It’s broken. The only sensible solution is to image your SD card with one of the individual downloads instead. And yes, this is an absolutely terrible and stupid situation and I have no idea why it has been allowed to persist for so long. |

Ok thanx. I knew I shouldn’t have ordered this when I was drunk in a nostalgia driven effort to see if I could play Starfighter 3000 again lol. I guess I’ll go try find an SD card adapter, I frigging wish cameras would enable you to write from them. |

wow not using noobs and just using the iso version of Risc, it has fixed all my problems… They really need to sort that noobs crap out. However Starfighter 3000 took like a day to get working and it runs like shit lol. Also is it possible to dual boot without noobs? The mouse is still temperamental too, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. |

Gonna have to stop using risc until they fix the mouse issues, having to restart it 10 times before it works……. |

grant: I don’t think that RISC OS will be the cause of your mouse issues – that is most likely to be that you don’t have adequate power going to your Pi. If that happens, some USB devices get very temperamental AIUI. |

To be clear, you are using the updated version of Star Fighter 3000, right? It should just work out of the box. If you’re using the original version, how are you playing it? On an emulator of some description? And if you do have the original version, don’t forget there’s a patch to upgrade it to the Pi-compatible edition. |
