Raspberry Pi Video Playback / Hardware CODECs

Hi,

What is the current state of RISC OS video playback?

We have found a need where RISC OS might be a good neiche, however it requires video playback.

Can RISC OS utilise the VideoCore’s hardware CODECs yet?

AFAIK there’s no way of talking to Broadcom’s GPU itself under RISC OS yet, so no.
You can however play mpeg via KinoAmp(?) or convert files using FFmpeg. Chris Gransden recently ported MPlayer as well but that’s more useful on the PandaBoard.

I have tried MPlayer, and FFMPEG but the quality / resolution / and fps would need to be much higher than they can provide on the board… :@(

I would love to have a go at helping with this, but wouldn’t have a clue where to start. :@(
