Some iconsprites missing

Some of the file icons on my Pandaboard are appearing as white squares as large icons or as a small sqaure with a question mark in the middle as small icons. The files are typed correctly and will open when double-clicked if, as normal, an appropriate application has been seen by the filer. Filetypes affected that I am aware of are EasiDoc (&d01) and MPEG (&bf8).
I tried the latest riscos ROM v5.21 dated 28-Feb-14 hoping that the problem would go away, but it hasn’t. Does anyone have any ideas?

Neither is in Resources:$.Resources.Wimp.Sprites (if that helps) in 25-Feb-2014 RC12 rom image.

File icons for the following file types are not in Resources:$.Resources.Wimp.Sprites, yet the files of those types have the correct icons.
&adf (PDF), &ba6 (MSExcel), &c37 (EurSheet), &af1 (Music), &69c (BMP), &b60 (PNG), &a91 (Zip), &bdf (Firewrkz).
There must be many more, but I have just listed a few that I have seen at a cursory glance. TechWriter (for EasiDoc file type) includes some sprite files, but none of the file icons (for &d01) are correct for 21st century TechWriter. There are some black and white icons for &d01, but not being used.
Where else could the correct icons be hiding?
Also, html files have the blank icon before Netsurf is booted, but afterwards have the correct icon.

I would expect application icons such as easidoc to be within the relevant application!

I had already looked inside !TechWrite and the only sprite files that have an icon for a &d01 type file are !Sprites, !Sprites22 and 4Sprites. The first 2 have ancient black and white icons and only 4Sprites has a modern looking icon for &d01 files; but the !Boot file sets the variable TechWriter$ro5 to 1 which results in 5Sprites being used. This seems appropriate since the Pandaboard is running RISC OS V5.21, but 5Sprites doesn’t have an icon for &d01 files.
Didn’t there used to be an &d01 file icon in Resources:$.Resources.Wimp.Sprites , because it ain’t there now? Perhaps Martin Weurthner thinks it’s still there in the OMAP4 RISC OS V5.21 ROMs.
Perhaps someone will enlighten me.

I have looked in Resources:$.Resources.Wimp.Sprites on my Beagleboard based system susing 2nd March HardDisc image and also ROM and I can see an icon representing the &d01.

Can you confirm if you upgraded your disc image as well as the ROM and also have you tried a clean copy of !Boot and choices as I had issues before when the !Themes were introduced and a clean install and re set up cured everthing.

My BeagleBoard is running RISC OS V5.20 and has the &d01 icon in Resources:$.Resources.Wimp.Sprites too, and the EasiDoc files have the correct icon. So, one wouldn’t expect a problem. On my pandaboard I did update the HardDisc stuff, before updating the previous ROM (also V5.21), but I can’t find the appropriate icon anywhere, not in Resources:$.Resources.Wimp.Sprites nor in !TechWrite nor in ThemeDefs.Themes. The correct icon has to be somewhere for EasiDoc files to use it!

My Pandaboard is running RISC OS 5.21 (03-Sep-2013) and TechWriter 9.12 (24-Sep-2013) and the relevant sprite (file_d01) is in SDFS::ARMiniX.$.Apps.!TechWrite.!Sprites22 (and !Sprites).

I said in my penultimate post that, yes, there are file icons for &d01 files in TechWriter’s !Sprites and !Sprites22, but they are black and white sprites, whereas on modern computers (21st century and before) the file icons have blue in them. So are you seeing black and white file icons for your EasiDoc files or have you got different icons in your !Sprites and !Sprites22 files?
I have the same version of !TechWriter as you, 9.12.
In any case, as I said before, TechWriter’s !Boot seems to run the 5Sprites file which doesn’t have a &d01 file icon.
Running an Obey file ‘forcing’ 4Sprites to be used, then the EasiDoc files get a Techwriter icon that looks right, at least it has the blue pencil as well as the capital E, but with a little plus sign. What are you seeing?
Also, looking at the !Boot file, the version of the Utility module is relevant. According to Verma, my Pandaboard has version 5.21 of the Utility module. My reading of !Boot means that TechWriter$ro5 would get value 0, but in fact it’s getting value 1. I am probably not understanding this.

Have a look at PlingBoot.Resources.PlingThemeDefs.Themes.Sovereign.!Sprites22,
there you can find some of !TechWrite file icons.
They are also in the same file in the Iyonix and the Raspberry theme directory.
Which theme do you have configured on your Pandaboard?

I had looked inside Resources.!ThemeDefs at the 3 sprites files in its root directory, which are only sprites for !ThemeDefs itself, and then didn’t bother to look further. I have just looked inside the 5 theme directories and this is where it gets interesting, so read on!
They all have Banner, SCSIFiler and SDFSfiler sprite files and these are the only files that Raspberry and Sovereign have, and Panda is using Sovereign! Aha!
Morris4 and Ursula have, in addition, !Sprites and !Sprites22, but the additional sprite files in Iyonix are Draw, Draw22, Paint and Paint22. The !Sprites and !Sprites22 files have just two icons each for !Themedefs.
In short, there are no file icons in my Panda’s !ThemeDefs directory, yet the directory is recent with date 19/12/2013. The messages file says that it is version 0.11 (25-Aug-13).
I have just looked at an earlier version of !Themedefs, version 0.09 (06-May-13) and, yes, Sovereign.!Sprites22 has loads of file icons including for &d01(EasiDoc) and MPEG, another one I was missing. I haven’t looked into the other stuff in this earlier version of !Themedefs. So, I just copy all these subdirectories into Panda’s, version 0.11, !ThemeDefs?
It seems that other posters in this thread were ‘off track’ in their suggestions, but perhaps their !ThemeDefs directory is complete.

Just downloaded 2nd March self extracting HardDisc image, extracted a hard disc setup, and looked in !ThemeDefs.Themes.Sovereign and the following sprite files are in there:

Banner, CoSprite,SCSIFiler, SDFSFiler,Sprites,Sprites11,Sprites22, Tools.

So perhaps when you updated to the latest !Boot, as you stated you did, then there was an issue with the merging that didn’t copy all the files?

Thanks for help. I have copied into the 5 directories in !ThemeDefs.Themes many files that were not present from today’s Beta HardDisc4. The file icons are no longer white squares (with ? for small icons).

I noticed that several files, but not the ones called SpritesXX, present in the Themes five subdirectories in Beta HardDisc4 are absent from the stable disc image version. Folk new to RISC OS might well go for the stable version and miss these icons (e.g. SCSIFiler, SDFSFiler, CoSprite). Perhaps ROOL should look into this.
