Help Using ADFFS

Hello again. I want to play some games from JASPP (forums.jaspp.org), but I’m unable to open the floppy images. I’m new to !ADFFS, but I’m unsure how to use it. I’ve tried the commands adfopen + name of floppy, and adfmount, but all that happens is this: “syntax: *adfmount (file)” or “adfopen (file)”, even if I include the name of the floppy. Am I missing something, or am I doing this all wrong? Clicking the floppy and dragging it onto !adffs also doesn’t work. I’m using RISC OS 5.21 RC 12 and !ArcEm with system rom 3.11. The floppies are in JFD format. Thanks, Graham. |

I’m fairly sure I just launched ADFFS, dragged the floppy image to it (your filetype is correct), then menu over the ADFFS icon to “Boot Floppy” or similar. |

Do you use it “inside” !ArcEm? |

As detailed above: 1. Launch !ADFFS I’d advice using the JASPP forum for specific ADFFS or JASPP game release questions, I’m on it most of the time so will answer queries quicker. |

Thanks for the replies. I’ll try this again later, but I remember getting disc errors or something (I’ll post the error later). Also using !ADFFS caused my Raspberry PI to lockup (not under !ArcEm). The image I tried was James Pond (http://forums.jaspp.org.uk:9000/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=75&sid=4386b00200bf9e073223d1b8bb27fcc1). |

Download the full archive and extract the JFD images. We have an ongoing issue where the Linux server is randomly corrupting files, so the JFD’s you have may be corrupt – which would explain the lockup and disc errors. Just be aware that James Pond isn’t 100% yet as it requires the new blitter for the scrolling to work, that’s still being developed. It’s playable, but scrolling isn’t smooth. |

Thanks for the replies. I was able to get the following floppies to open !Cascade (1992:was able to play), !Chuck Rock (rcomp: unable to play), !James Pond (rcomp: was not able to play), !Gods (rcomp: unable to play), !populous (1992: needed floppy, couldn’t just click and drag to play), !Zool (works well). Was not able to open the following: Hero Quest (1991), Janangir Kahn World, James Pond (1990), Lemmings (1991 and rpc versions), mad Professor Mariarti, Magic Pockets (1993), manchester united, Pac-mania (1989), Speedball 2 (1994 and RPC versions), SWIV (1993). I haven’t tried running the others through !ADFFS and booting floppies. I’ve only tried clicking and dragging them into hostfs. Edit: Got !populous to work, but I have to open the game in the floppy not hostfs. |

I play not often but I try any things for my Pandoradistro. I remember any programms not work from HostFS. Only direct from Floppyimage or they need a HDImage. |

If you look at the “Game info” section on the download pages, it tells you how to run the game. Most will require you to use “Boot Floppy” from the ADFFS Filer. If you look at the OS/CPU compatibility section, it will detail if your particular combination is supported. Hero Quest for example doesnt currently work on RO5 and Manchester United Europe isnt StrongARM compatible. If the CPU/OS is in black, its natively supported, if its shown in green, ADFFS is required to get it running on that platform. |
