#riscos on IRC

For many, many years, #riscos on the ircnet network (e.g. eu.ircnet.org) was a hive of RISC OS activity. Especially at the weekend, but fairly consistently at other times, there’d be extended conversation on matters (sometimes) relating to RISC OS. This was a great meetup place for both new users to RISC OS and old hands, and served as a support network where you could get fairly instant and useful advice. It also developed a strong community feel at its best. Well known (ex?) RISC OS users such as Peter Naulls and Chris Williams were fairly omnipresent. It’s become a bit more quiet recently, but the channel is still there and maintained. With the user base growing once again, and with it the need for RISC OS support, it would be great for RISC OS users new and old to open a channel window to #riscos and help breath life into this once-great little community. If you’re new to IRC on RISC OS, you can download a 32-bit version of LIRC from http://riscos.openpandora.org/Diverses/lirc32.zip or use the commerical Grapevine client (on !Store and part of NutPi). LIRC requires some Zap modules I think to start, but is a nice free client once running. You need to tell it which ircnet server you’d like it to use (e.g. the one I mentioned above), what your nickname will be and then you just join #riscos (there’s a preconfigured button for this on LIRC). See you there? |

Perhaps I will take a look, although generally I don’t like the ‘live chat’ type of services, much prefer forums and newsgroups. |

24 / 9 = 2.666 so if you space things right you can all have 2.6 hours of solitude (with a small margin between slots to ensure your solitude is completely unblemished. :) |
