RC12 SD on RPi problem

Hi, This is my very first try to run RISC OS, therefore I followd the instructions word by word – but anyway failed. Have a 8G card that works with my RPi board. Downloaded the RC12 SD image and used Win32DiskImager to write it to the SD card. The result – nothing happens. The RPi shows with a red led that it has power – but noting else. No sign of the boot. What I am doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

Your setup sounds very like mine. I have a 2-into-1 cable from two of the ports on the USB hub to the power input of the RPi. The RPi seems rather sensitive to how much power it is getting, so maybe yours is not getting enough. Best of luck. |

Make sure that you download the correct RC12 SD card image – it should decompress to about 1820Mbytes before you write it to the SD card using Win32DiskImager. When you have written it to the SD card, check that you can see the files in the FAT partition as described here |

Chris, thank you for helping me. I did exatly as it is written. Here are the images I use:
I have tested one more time the configuration by installing raspbnc. It worked perfect – as expected. This is how my partition looks like: …everything looks nice – but it does not boot. Has anybody tested this RC12 SD image? Thank you. Regards, |

At the first run I had the same problems. I try a other download (not sure ROOL or Raspberry.org) and it works perfect. |

Hi, >Has anybody tested this RC12 SD image? I downloaded the Beta RPi ROM (RC11) image. Copied the RISCOS file as RISCOS.IMG to the SD… and voila – it boots. This means just the “ready made” RC12 SD image has some problems. Unfortunately, we all – beginners want to start with that.. and it feels like hitting the wall. Bye for now… I am burning to see how RISC OS can suprise me :) |

This is all news to us… :( Which RC12 image was the non-booter? Was it hosted by Raspberry Pi or RISC OS Open? |

I downloaded the RC12 image from ROOL about a month ago and everything worked as it should. Unless the file has changed since then (and it shouldn’t have!) then the problem is elsewhere. Nevertheless I’m redownloading the image now and will double-check that it’s still working at this end. |

We’ve not changed the one hosted on our site. |

It is indeed unchanged; it’s identical to the one I got a month ago and it worked on the first try. The one on the Raspberry Pi site is also identical so it doesn’t matter which you download (although I give ROOL the award for fastest server). Edit: I should also note that I created the card using dd on a Mac. |

With reference to this topic, I created an RC12 SD (under Windows) earlier in the month with no unexpected problems. Is your particular SD card known to work or fail on the Pi? http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards I had a lovely 16GB SD. But it appears to be Made Of Fail on the Pi, so instead it is serving me content from the Livebox using DLNA. Must get around to merging in the subs in Zenkai Girl (funny series!). Anyway, made RC12, booted it, dropped in latest (then) ROM, booted, installed sources and built, booted that. ;-) |

Hi, thank you for helping me. I confirm, that the SD card is supported and all images that I have mentioned earlier were downloaded from https://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/raspberry-pi I repeated the procedure again: I do not know what I am doing wrong, but I am glad that I have a working RISC OS to play with. Thank you. Regards, |

I always “Zero-Out” the SD card, not just a quick-erase. Yes it takes more time, but to me it’s more reliable. I also use Unix dd to write the image. I download it to a directory and write it out. Make sure the SD card is securely inserted, if it’s not, you will get the red LED only. |
