DUP!

I am having trouble with my Vonets WiFi dongle. Reception in my room is marginal, and right now there’s a lot of static in the air (smells like ocean ozone, I wouldn’t be surprised if this turned into a thuderstorm during the night). Anyway, seems the Vonets is a bit crashy in this situation, so unplug, plug back in, wait for it to sync with WiFi (or not) then run a quick ping to make sure it really is talking to the world. I’ve passed almost a third of a gigabyte with AnimeNFO radio (192kbps) this evening… *ping 192.168.1.1 PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=22.533 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=13.187 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=27.587 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=12.912 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=1837.555 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=13.954 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=5 ttl=64 time=14.601 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=6 ttl=64 time=14.132 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=7 ttl=64 time=38.229 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=8 ttl=64 time=34.993 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=9 ttl=64 time=14.588 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=10 ttl=64 time=14.263 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=11 ttl=64 time=3.735 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=12 ttl=64 time=2.754 ms --- 192.168.1.1 ping statistics --- 13 packets transmitted, 13 packets received, +1 duplicates, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 2.754/147.501/1837.555 ms Never seen a duplicate packet before. Wonder how that happened! |

The reply from 192.168.1.1 was duplicated, probably because the acknowledge of the original didn’t make it back to 192.168.1.1. Hence the duplicate of the third packet after the fourth packet. (note the sequence numbers) In small numbers that kind of thing indicates some intermittent connection issues. Not uncommon with wireless. |
