Big stuff in !Cache

While checking to see if I had something in !Boot, I saw the Find function spent 99% of its time ploughing through a directory in !Cache containing thousands of Netsurf files.

A random sampling suggests that every file is dated 22nd September.

Is that normal? Can I delete them?

Yes.

NetSurf should now correctly expire its cache, as set in its Choices, I believe. The cache can easily be huge, reflecting the hugeness of modern sites.

Usually, clicking on “Quiet” results in a selected directory instantly disappearing; but that took so long I went to the kitchen, made myself a drink, came back, and drank it.

Without also clicking on ‘Faster’ the directory viewer is redrawn after each delete this can be very slow with directories containing lots of files.

Perhaps the Filer could auto-Faster if there are more than n files to be deleted (or the process so far has taken more than n seconds)?

I already have the Filer’s default speed set to “Faster”.

The deletion didn’t take so long because it was set to “Slower”, it took so long because Netsurf left a bloody huge mess.
