Wanted (cerilica vantage)

Hi, I don’t suppose that anyone has a copy of Vantage (manual included) that they would be willing to sell me, for not too much? Regards Richard

I’d be wary of buying a second hand Vantage. It emerged that it had some hidden copy protection thing that meant it just decided to stop working after some period of time without some sort of upgrade from Cerilica. My copy stopped working but by that point Cerilica had vanished, and its been unusable since.

Anyway, although it’s been years since I last used it, I remember it as being a bit flaky. For most tasks I’d recommend ArtWorks2.

I believe that as long as version 1.11 Is used it has had the copy protection removed, according to drobe. Michael does that mean you have a copy for sale? Does anyone have the 1.11 upgrade files (or newer)?

If I do still have it, it will be at my parents place and I won’t be able to check for a while, but I think it probably didn’t survive a clear-out a few years back.

I confess I wonder why you would want Vantage! I made the mistake of buying a copy and my sad experience was:

A) I found it was unreliable and buggy.

B) I was promised as a condition of my purchase that a module would be released that allowed the transparency of objects to be rendered in other applications. i.e. a new ‘drawfile’ module that did this – finally adding the transparency Acorn initially allowed for in the spec but never implimented. Without that the program was useless for me since no-one could see the results in my illustrations in documents. Never appeared. Instead, the author essentially vanished… Transparency of the wrong kind. 8-]

IIRC someone who helped in the project also got their fingers burned by the episode.

I simply use ArtWorks and (Open)Vector. Both work fine for me. OpenVector is free and open. ArtWorks is well worth its price.

The reason I was after it was I had some files I wanted to export into another format, also I wanted to see how certain features were implemented, to see if I could use the same method in ImpressionX.
