RISC OS Pi - red light and black screen

Hi, My RISC OS Pi machine is fast becoming my main machine. However, one concerning aspect of my setup is it has a propensity to go into a deep unwakeable sleep after leaving it for an hour or two. Very regularly, I come back to the machine (after using it happily throughout the day) to find it unresponsive – with a single red light glowing on the board and the monitor black. It won’t respond to a Ctrl-Break, only pulling out the power cable and starting afresh. Any ideas? I’m worried it will do this whilst writing to the SD, leaving me with a corrupt card. Thanks in advance |

First I’ve heard of this, but a quick Google and…
Hope this helps. For reference:
The device is usually powered 24.7 – it runs my server. It has achieved uptimes in terms of weeks. It’d be more if it wasn’t for thunderstorms, power cuts, and idiot programmer errors requiring reboots. ;-) 1 I’m insulting how damn lethargic the thing is. But do note that some super-whizzy ultra-fast cards are known to fail on the Pi, sometimes right out, sometimes in unpredictable ways. |

I had this problem yesterday. I’ve been using the low vector ROM and associated boot files here: https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/1/topics/4056 |

One possibility is that you did a file copy with the option ‘Newer’ ticked, so that some files were copied and some were not. |

Thank you for the replies. Rick: I think it’s a power issue. When I, for example, switch in a USB stick I get the red light and lock up. I have an uprated Pi specific PSU, but I think it’s cheap and nasty. The connection’s poor and if I move it/the Pi it invariably resets. Not ideal. Will experiment with a phone adaptor and a powered hub and see if that improves things. Thanks again. |

I run my Pi with
in the CONFIG/TXT to boost USB current. It may help. |
