Is someone currently maintaining/developing !Tau? |

No one as far as I know. I think that the last maintainer of !Tau, Peter Killworth has sadly passed away. I think that he had the source code. The last address I have for him was at Southampton University. |

In deference to those of us who have no belief in an after-life, may I please ask that you use “died”. Those with religious beliefs otherwise may then make their own interpretation of the consequences, but IMHO the use of such phrases as “passed on”, “passed away”, “moved on to a better …” are arrogant; in assuming that everyone else conforms to your own belief pattern. When I die, I will be dead. No euphemisms. Kaput! An ex- [sig follows] Be sad if you wish, otherwise, the same! It will not affect me one jot! I’ll be dead! |

The one I like is “lost”, like “we lost uncle Pete”, which sort of leaves open the possibility that a couple of years from now he’ll come crawling out of the broom closet covered in dust and cobwebs. “Didn’t you lose uncle Pete?” “Oh don’t worry, we found him again”… Me? When I’ve had enough of the near shore, I’m going to the far shore. I hear the fishing is better over there. |

I asked because I’m thinking of trying to work out how to generate output from other programs that includes the Tau ‘style’ details to become Tau Files which can be immediately run to display correctly formatted plots. The snag for me being that !Tau is in BASIC which I’ve not used for ages, so I’d be trying to reverse-engineer the Tau file format by experiment. I have the feeling that the details of the Tau file format haven’t been published. (?) In the past I’ve always used my own DrawGen for such things. But I like the advantage of Tau that the user can easily twiddle with the display settings. The version I have is “1.50 Jun 05”. Is there a later version? Jim |

I’m a Christian and prefer “Died”. I don’t think “passed away” has any religious connotations, to me if anything it suggests no afterlife. Talking about death in plain terms is much more healthy than flowery euphemisms. |

I’m Rick, and I encourage somebody to post: Epic! Now that Rick’s gone and kicked the bucket, And when the inevitable annoying takes-offence-on-other-people’s-behalf person comes along and freaks out, point them to this post. |
