Modern NASs

Can anyone recommend a modern NAS for use with LanMan98 or LanManager? But with or without that set I get the same error. It doesn’t sound like a fix from WSS will happen any time soon, so if anyone knows of a currently available model that works I’d be very grateful. Alternatively are there any idiot proof instructions for LanManager? |

What version of LM98? Also what version of RISC OS? The built in LanMan has been updated recently so has a much better chance of working. Have you tried using SunFish to access the NAS via NFS instead? Or you could buy a NAS from a RISC OS dealer which should guarantee it works with RISC OS! E.g: http://cjemicros.co.uk/micros/prices/categories/network.shtml#otherhd I know RComp also sell NAS devices, but can’t find them on their website :-( |

LM98 2.06 (the latest) and on a RPC 4.02 & a Pi with RC14 I’ve been able to return the Buffalo and would prefer not to use sunfish which I read some people have problems with. Thanks for the link. |

I have Sunfish running here with a Synology and a QNAP NAS and they hold my backups of the two RISC OS 5 machines no problems. |

Hi Tim. We do have a range of single drive LanMan98 friendly NASs in stock. We are currently evaluating some dual drive NASs and have had the same problem as you encountered with the Buffalo. We’re buying in some other makes and models and will be testing those. So hopefully it won’t be too long before we could supply! |

Basic-as-you-like LanManFS install and Omniclient: Had the problem of access to a Buffalo NAS but it went away when the updates from Colin were added. Still have the file count issues (haven’t got around to testing the version he did that apparently fixes that) |

Good news! After many hours of testing and buying about £500 worth of hardware1 we now have a dual bay NAS (Raid 1 etc) that it LanMan98 Compatible:-) |
