If I buy a Raspberry Pi 3 today...

… can I run RISC OS Pi on it? Having had a mk 1 Pi for 4 years, I’m sorely tempted to get the latest model. However, after about half an hour trawling through the forum, I can’t seem to find a definitive answer as to whether I can run RISC OS Pi successfully, or whether I need to fiddle with the nightly build. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find this out? Thanks in advance :-) Steve |

The nightly download should work. Chris Hall has posted a link to a version that many people use. |

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find this out? See this link – the tricky bit is that you have to use a model 1 or 2 to update the SD card if you are doing that under RISC OS. |

Hmmm.

Yes. I do. Had to update the image using an older Pi though as previously mentioned by others. Also when I did it the October version didn’t work and I had to use the July version…but if the nightly build is newer than the October version then I would go with that one! |

The October version should work. |

I was going to ask the same question – glad someone else did! See this link Which version to use? Low vector or High vector – am I missing something? I’ve already got a working RPi 2 with RC14 installed (unmodded), and a RPi 3 waiting for me to put RISC OS on it. Also, someone, in another post (maybe another forum) mentioned about Tank’s GPIO module not working with the RPi 3. There was no clear answer to the question in the post…unless, again, I missed something (which is highly likely). |

Low vector is the most compatible (RC14 is low vector) but high vector is encouraged for testing. There is a relatively long thread about high vectors (also known as “zero page relocation”). |

Hi all, thanks for your responses and apologies for my delayed response. At a glance, would http://www.svrsig.org/software/Update.htm be the place to go, but the required amends would need to be performed on the Mk 1 first, before I use that build on a Pi 3? Out of interest, how long would it be before we had an “official” distribution for the Pi 3? Kind Regards Steve |

A new release is in the works; I believe there are a couple of bits of outstanding work which are being waited on, after which it should be ready to go. |

Because of a (possible) power supply issue with my Pi B+ I have switched over to a Pi3 for my main RISC OS computer…perhaps a bit premature but it is actually much more stable. I’m still investigating the issues with the B+ and might switch them back (not least because my wife will get her Nintendo emulator back!) but I was wondering if anyone was maintaining a list of software that is compatible with the Pi3? The main OS seems very stable now (with the October firmware) |
