thanks to your help I’ve got !POPstar running now. |

How to set a POP port number is in “Users setup” in POPstar’s StrongHelp. In theory pop.gmail.com:995 might suffice, but POPstar is very old! The manual does not mention ports for SMTP. I don’t use gmail, so not much help. |

Does modern POP not require some sort of encryption? |

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7104828?hl=en Hmm! gmail does offer 110, which is presumably POPstar’s default. |

I have read here and for me it looks like SSL/TLS is needed. So you need !POP3S and !SMTPS as a free aviable solution and not forget to use/configure a eMail App. |

Ah, but does your ISP? Orange (France) blocks POP3 and SMTP. You can only connect to Orange’s server. There are, of course, workarounds. Port 456 or something? I don’t remember as I’ve transitioned everything to using encryption because… mobile devices, public access points, you’d be mad to send passwords and such as cleartext… |

“Gamut” is what I think you mean, unless you’re employing non-white south africans to do the work and being rather non-PC. |

Just to point out that it’s very easy to get gmail to send stuff on to a conventional POP account such as POPstar is excellent at handling, and replies pretending to be from a gmail account are equally easy. Not what you wanted, but an alternative approach! |

Just to point out that it’s very easy to get gmail to send stuff on to a conventional POP account I think you mean getting gmail to forward mail on to another email server that doesn’t use encryption,(The only way Popstar can work} How do you get on when you want to send an email /from/ your gmail address to someone? You say Popstar can fake this? It’s not important to me anyway, there are no free email providers that dont use encryption. |

Secure SMTP (via TLS or SSL) can also be done with Frank de Bruijn’s MSC application. There’s been a bit of correspondence about this in the last few days on the AntiSpam mailing list. But you do need the SSL module for secure SMTP (with MSC) and secure POP3 (with AntiSpam). |
