Version 0.57 is available. I have added “Suggestions” which pulls information from the “weekly ranking”. Rather than the all-time popular manga (as before), the use of the weekly ranking ought to have titles change as trends change (though I don’t think One Piece is ever going away – what is it now, over 1000 chapters?). I was going to look at doing search, but my tablet failed last night and I’ve spent the morning setting everything up again. Failed? I downloaded four episodes of “Into The Badlands”. Watched two, and then the thing froze up. I power cycled, after waiting ages for the system UI to respond. Upon reboot, it asked me to enter my password. So somewhere along the way, it screwed itself up badly. Android’s equivalent of registry corruption? It’s pretty crap that if you can’t guess a password you never set up, then the only option is to wipe the device and begin again. Setting up apps and preferences is a pain. I’ve set this device to back itself up to Google because, well, it’s only been about a month so I kind of expect this to happen again… a backup might make reinstallation quicker/less annoying. Maybe all that wuxia action was just too much for the poor thing to cope with? ;-) |

Unless the backup is “accidentally” corrupted by “the deep state” and “big tech” conspiring against you. :) |

Hi Rick, where is 0.57 as the website still has 0.56 and it doesn’t give me an update option when 0.56 is run. By the way think I found a bug in 0.56 as I thought I would download 0.56 just in case it was an issue with my version or you had canaged to 0.57 but not changed the download details. Anyway with Manga on the iconbar go to menu and Info and immediately it errors with Unrecoverable error in run time system. Not enough memory, Malloc failed, (Heap over written) Take care and thanks for all your efforts. |

You’re right, I forgot to update the HTML. The pattern is predictable, so… http://heyrick.ddns.net/manga/manga_0-57.zip
It should, the update file is correct. More likely bad reception means the message isn’t getting through in time. It times out quickly so as not to introduce too much of a delay at startup.
Doesn’t here ;-) but I do suspect this might be a buffer overrun due to how much stuff is being written into the info string at the bottom of the window now. I’ll have to jiggle that all to make it better so all those Manga fit the icon.
You’d have thought the Big Deep Tech State would have wanted me to pay my €7.99 a month and sit watching stuff like a drooling zombie. You can’t be subversive or seditious if you’re more interested in Tilda getting her ass handed to her. |

Hi Rick,
OK tried again with 0.56 and holding down the shift key and up pops the download box that says: This is version 0.56 Downloaded and it installed and Versions file says 0.57 but can’t check via the info box as it still error’s. Take care. |
Doug Webb (190) 1180 posts |
OK so today the Menu>Info option works! I have not chnaged anything on the system and yesterday I did countless reboots, restarts with nothing loaded at boot up, cleared Manga Cache and also all data/choices etc but everytime it errored but not today. Scratch head and wait for it to happen again if it ever does :-) |

Happy Valentines to all you manga fans! Version 0.58 is available. The auto-gizmo won’t detect it (reason below) but if you’re using v0.56 or later you can force getting this file by starting Manga and holding down Shift until the update notification appears. Or… get it from Store. ;-) Here’s what’s new:
Have fun! |

!Manga v0.58 from store crashes When loading “Noragami” and trying to read (“GO”), !Manga crashes with the following Error: What I`m doing wrong? |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
You aren’t doing anything wrong. That’s supposed to work. It works for me. Let’s try something – pop over to my private site and pick up a copy of a known working version of the AcornHTTP module. http://heyrick.ddns.net/manga/ It’s the stuff in the big red box at the top. Keep a copy of your existing AcornHTTP module. If the replacement fixes this, please send me the one you were using so I can add it to the “known broken” list. Let me know how you get on. … Ooh, Noragami. I liked the animé. And I noticed a Korean drama on Netflix (Devil Punisher, I think) that I only watched a few minutes of before thinking it took more than a few ideas from Noragami. Tossing around cards with writing on them? Pretty girl sidekick turns into a sword (and back again)? It doesn’t seem the sort of series to include a schoolgirl with a tail 1, mind you. 1 Makes sense in context. |

I tried now, what causes the crash: |

Hmm, bookmarks ought to be per session. Thanks, that’s great. Next time I’m at the Pi I’ll fiddle around with bookmarks, see if I can reproduce it, and what I cocked up. ;-) |

Oh, this was really weird. It was crashy for me. Adding in some debug code, it was crashing in places that just didn’t make any sense. So I removed the debug code. Observed it crashing, like all the time. Binary was the same size as the one in the v0.58 archive. Rebooted. Wiped all of the object files, rebuilt. Binary was a different size. It has recreated the main index and read a few pages of Noragami. No idea what was going on, it seems as if some memory someplace got corrupted which was affecting the compiler/linker/taskwindow/something. Can you please try v0.59 (my site, updater, Store…) and tell me if this works for you too? |
Doug Webb (190) 1180 posts |
HI Rick, Saw this and tried 0.59 with Noragami and it gave an error, sorry forgot to record what it was..100 lines “I must …”. So cleared the history/cache and restarted Manga and re downloaded Noragami and this time it seems OK. I have noticed on occasions Manga error when I have scaling on, 1920 × 1080 screen, so tend to use it in unscaled mode. |
Erich Kraehenbuehl (1634) 181 posts |
I tryed it bit more. I tried now the 0.59 version. Same as before. But easy solution: empty the cache directory of Manga before starting. |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
How strange. My cache is like half a gigabyte… |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
Is this something new? Does 0.56/0.57 behave? |
Erich Kraehenbuehl (1634) 181 posts |
I found out, which file i have to delete in cache: mh_08-B40F (in case of noragami). before trying Manga version 0.58 I used Manga version 0.41 Sorry i can not tell about the versions between |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
That’s the main information file for the manga, from which the manga data (title, author, chapter count, blah blah) is extracted. I’ve just spent an hour wiping and refetching Noragami, and I’m just not getting anything messing up. There may well be a problem quietly lurking, but it wasn’t enough of a problem to crash the program or cause any observable misbehaviour. I do plan, at some stage, to write a set of functions like LEFT$, INSTR, etc and use those in the parser instead of endless mucking around with pointers into the string (of data read in from the downloaded file). Some rainy weekend, perhaps?
Have you at all? I wonder if this is something specific to the Pi 4x? (I’m using an ARMv7 Pi2). |
Erich Kraehenbuehl (1634) 181 posts |
Tried also on a Pi2B. Exactly the same problem ( Risc Os 2.8) It crashes until i delete all Mhxxx. Files and the folders with the same name. Deleting only one file does not help. But MHxxx.jpg file can stay, also the mhindex- file. I can not understand why, Manga downloads exactly the same files after a newstart again, and works… |
Doug Webb (190) 1180 posts |
Yep, noticed this now and have to do the same thing, delete history and cache and reboot for it to work, Manga 0.59. Also it aborts on data transfer when trying to look at the history to start reading something you have in the history cache. |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
Is this behaviour new? |
Doug Webb (190) 1180 posts |
The history aborts were there in older versions as I think I mentioned here. The other issue I did see occasionally in other versions since the change to the new library location/service but it seems to have gotten worse mentioning malloc/not enough memory issues etc. |

Is this still being maintained / served? I tried to use !Manga and just get hit with a 403 error. So I guess I don’t have permission for some reason? |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
Not really-ish. A while back they started doing something strange which broke Manga – including the use of phantom images that would cause things to return an error. Seems like an awful lot of work protecting what is essentially stolen content…scanlations are dubious at best (the usual excuse is “no sales are lost because it isn’t available”) and as far as I’m aware the site just collects the work of others rather than providing their own translations. <sigh> |
