CApp would not open

Hi all, I’ve been following Steve Fryatt’s instructions in creating a RISC OS app (in RPCEMu on a Mac) and have hit a problem on his webpage: http://www.stevefryatt.org.uk/docs/wimp/makefiles.html I didn’t have the respective MakeFiles folder – so I’ve managed to obtain these from RISC OS Open, but I think my AMU paths are not set up correctly – as when I run my Make file, I get: HostFS::HostFS:.$.BetterCProg.CApp: would not open Can someone tell me what my AMU $path and $dir variables should be called and what they should be set up to be ? My Makefiles path is HostFS::HostFS.$.AcornC/C++.MakeFiles. I contacted Steve Revell at RISC OS Open, and he tells me it’s something missing in my Acorn C !SetPaths folder. Any help gratefully received! |

Really!! What version of the DDE is this?
The term The
Something somewhere is missing or otherwise fouled up, or it is a rather old DDE. The example works fine here on a Titanium, and RPCEmu on Linux in a VM on a Mac. |

Thanks for replying David. I have a pretty old version of the DDE (v 23 I think – how do you check?) I believe it was missing the MakeFiles, so I needed to get them separately. In my MakeFiles folder I do indeed have a CApp file (of type Text). Maybe I haven’t set the file type correctly – all my MakeFiles folder files are text? I would agree with you that “something somewhere is missing or otherwise fouled up” (and it is an old DDE). Should I buy a new DDE from RISC OS Open and reinstall the whole kit and caboodle? What version are you using? I even have the original RISC OS installation on floppy discs too! |

New style makefiles, such as CApp (filetype Text), are a fairly recent innovation. I don’t know what would be needed to introduce the new makefiles fully into an old DDE. Steve Fryatt’s tutorial should still be usable on an older DDE, one would have to derive relevant makefiles. I keep up to date and now have DDE28c. £25 approximately annually to update, half full price with a Developer Key. (Starts with DEV.) That said, there has been talk of the DDE becoming free to match the the now more truly open sourced RISC OS 5. |

Thanks for feedback again David. I contacted ROOL, and they indeed confirmed that I can get a later version for the half price (resolving the make files problem and adding new features) – so that is what I’ll do, rather than mess around. I am aware of the possibly of it becoming free in future too! Thanks again! |
