As far as I can tell, he made a directory viewer of a specific important dirtectory fill the screen, then got lost. Maybe he has stuff arranged like: $.important.to_sort_out_later_1 ? :-) Either way, pat on the back for remembering to look at the BOFH wall calendar. |

The directory has at least 100 things in it. I open it multiple times a day. It turns out I subconsciously know to do this thing I open the dir, scroll two pages down, and then its on the left of the third row… but then I maximised the window, everything was in a different place, I was viewing a screen full of text and I couldn’t even remember what the thing I was doing was called – it’s all muscle memory now. I’ll get my coat. |

The big difference between high performing teams like Mercedes F1 and not so high and failing their potential – like Ferrari. Admit mistakes, learn and move on. |

Ah yes. Such and such an app is listed in the Android apps list on the second page, three across and two down. Then one installs an app with a number at the start, or maybe a low alphabet character, and suddenly everything has moved. The app that one wants to run, what was it called? What did it’s icon look like? God knows – it was… right there… and now it isn’t. |

There’s lots of things like this in user interfaces that aren’t obvious in theory but painful in practice. Another: When doing a FilerAction like find, the “Faster” button is in the middle. I tentatively line up the pointer with the exact centre of the button every time I click it, because at any moment it might disappear and be replaced by two other buttons that do different things – one of which is RUN. For crying out loud. |

That reminds me of the search & replace dialogue in !Edit. You have to be careful not to move the mouse outside the box or otherwise it will disappear, and you have to open it again. Very frustrating especially if your mouse is rubbish. |

Depends which way you move it. 3 out of 4 directions are OK. :) |
