Tyoob (game written in BBC BASIC)

…but not the Wilson branch of BBC BASIC :-) My latest game, written in about 25 days, recently came 2nd in the latest game-making contest at SyntaxBomb.com. The original Windows version (written in BBC BASIC for Windows) is mostly BASIC, but uses a bit of C for Z-sorting and other tasks. The game wasn’t meant to be a demo or promotion of BBC BASIC so I did’t mind ‘cheating’ a little and resorting to some C for performance purposes (I do like high, consistent frame rates!). Richard Russell subsequently ported Tyoob to the cross-platform version of BBC BASIC (BBCSDL), and it is pure Russell-branch BBC BASIC. No C at all. Here’s a YouTube video of the original BB4W version in action: Download links can be found here: BB4W: http://www.proggies.uk/#tyoob (Windows EXE) I intend to port this and another game of mine (Forces of Darkness) to RISC OS, and — sorry to whinge — those tasks would be so much easier if ARM BBC BASIC supported structures and structure arrays which my programs almost always make heavy use of. Anyway, this is very old ground, so I’ll sign off here. :) David. |

Or if BBCSDL was available under RISC OS (would need some SDL 2 → SDL 1.2 modifications). |

“Or if BBCSDL was available under RISC OS (would need some SDL 2 → SDL 1.2 modifications).” The BBCSDL source code can be downloaded from here (should anyone fancy the challenge): |

Gotta say, those games do look excellent :) They remind me a lot of AmCog’s games, which are also good! |

AmCog’s Overlord was, I’m pretty sure, the initial inspiration for Tyoob (although Tempest ought to get a mention too, I suppose!). Which reminds me, it’s time to purchase my copy of Star Mine :-) |
