What three words?

While it is easy to knock the idea of what three words, it could make things simpler. I cannot remember my coordinates. Indeed it isn’t helped that Google Maps uses a weird float number rather than degrees, minutes, seconds. But if I should ever get annoyed enough to want to bop Johnson on the nose, the amusing (and perhaps appropriate?) slurs.this.shark will take me right there. As for the RISC OS app (no, I hadn’t heard if it either), don’t shout too loudly. The algorithm is proprietary and patented and enforced 1. So, good idea, crappy implementation… 1 Might explain why Google Maps doesn’t support it. |

Looking at where I am now, Google Maps is giving me the address near enough. I think that’s usable enough. Looking at a location a bit more remote, the coordinates it gives appear to be the longitude and latitude in decimal format, rather than (what’s the word… sexadecimal or something like that?) – that’s not weird. Because I like to wander off to where few people are (bliss) I have OS apps on my phone (primarily to record my route). I can use that (here in the UK, anyway) to get my OS grid reference as well. I imagine the app works in a similar way to Kevin Wells’ various apps – feeding source data (in this case, the location obtained by some other means?) to a web API to get the results – so it’s probably fine and in no danger from any kind of enforcement. I’m going to have to seek it out and check when I’m home, though. I wonder what three words can tell me where to find it? 😜 |
