Or did all your teletext hardware die?

I haven’t used teletext in a long time – it’s pretty much died out on British TV (not that I watch that much anymore).

Plus, the hardware is all 5V and I don’t have level shifters. Didn’t seem any point when nothing to use/read.

Sticking in carefully tuned delays after waiting on a VSync is something of an admission that the machine is pretty much unable to provide reliable sync interrupts. And while dispmanx may have a better way of doing it, this stuff isn’t available for RISC OS.

In short, I just don’t do teletext any more.
But I will agree that it’s kind of cool to fiddle around to insert teletext into a video signal by drawing the data directly.

For the past couple of years I’ve been using vbit-pi-stream to generate teletext at the museum where I volunteer. This feeds into our aerial distribution system and is then available to a number of old TV’s. The main one for displaying teletext is a Philips G11 (when I can keep it working). The interest from visitors of a certain generation is a joy to see.

I’ve also added software to enable it to push out a rolling display of early testcards and station indents which can be viewed on other TV’s
