Clientside styles

Most websites use CSS for styling. The CSS file does not have to be on the server providing the webpages; it could be anywhere, even on the client’s computer. In that caseĀ each client can style the page to her liking rather than that of the webpage-author. Sadly, I know of no websites that cede control to the client in this way. I would be happy to hear of any that do. A web page containing
in the header is all that is needed as far as RISC OS is concerned. The client simply has to set the system variable my$style to point to a CSS file on her computer and refresh the page. It works with NetSurf. Now if the ROOL site offered such pages, it could also display a gallery of screen captures, showing the artistic merit and CSS-skill of any individuals willing to compete. Something like this would be an agreeable and light-hearted way for schools to teach design skills. How about it ROOL? |

That’s correct. There are browser plugins for the big two that allow application of custom stylesheets to sites. It’s basically what you say. They substitute (or possibly apply) custom stylesheets based on the URL. |
