I once worked on the Dolphin Supernova screen reader for Windows, and ported it to Windows CE. Before my eyesight goes, I promised myself I’d write one for RISC OS. The main issue these days is the increasing level of security in operating systems preventing the screen reader determining what other applications are doing (which is what malware is also trying to do). Luckily RISC OS is completely free this problem, offering a delicious amount of legitimate hooks in to the low level the OS, and complete freedom to snoop on other applications. The main issue on RISC OS will be its lack of full and consistent keyboard navigation. There might be a lot fun bolting this on, especially on applications that draw their own controls, rather than using Wimp icons. |

Brilliant. Thanks. Installed it, and she’s busy reading Recent Posts in the background as I make a mug of tea. It’s…interesting when it gets to tech stuff. It’ll also be useful in the morning to read news articles as I make/eat breakfast. Edit: OMG, she’s trying to read a bit of BASIC code. 😂 |

Nice, I can tweak how some things are said. “SerialUSB” → “serial u s b”. :) |
