From: https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/1/topics/15439#posts-104297 Context: My freebie tablet, for example, Google Docs worked great last summer where I rolled off ~90 pages of a fiction story; but it’s been getting progressively slower to the point where the OS pops up “all isn’t responding” messages several times at startup; and there’s no cool new functionality to explain the change…oh, and in print preview mode, a 1GHz 4 core chip is no longer able to keep up with a regular speed typist – what the hell? While that’s depressingly true, I should point out that the same setup worked fine last summer. It’s Docs that has changed. And since there’s no cache of prior versions, I can’t revert. And since there’s no sensible or useful change log, I can’t think “oh, it’s because…”. Why upgrade? Because I keep hoping (perhaps irrationally) that the app will one day gain the same sort of abilities as the website version regarding features like setting up styles, different left/right headers and footers, the ability to create different sections (think chapters). It’s really rather bizarre that the official app running “native” is so inferior to…a website. |
